 F-22 Pro

In 1996 Thrustmaster released the F-22 Pro flightstick. This heavy baby packed all the goods in the F-16 FLCS and some more...
First of all, almost all parts are made from metal. This means less wear and it "feels better". The handle, while still from plastic, is filled and feels more solid. Second thing is something has been topic of many discussions : stiffer springs. And third, a new chip, which offers several new features including logical programming. Due to the newer microcode there was no longer need for a download switch so it been removed.

The F-22 Pro is still the king among flightsticks today. However there are a few downsides :

  • The price, which is very high (about $150 right now)
  • Thrustmaster is (was?) having problems with the pots, many people had to replace them after a short while. Now that Guillemot has downgraded support the question will be if there will be enough pots for everybody.

Note however that with the new digital chips by Bob Church this is no longer a big problem... the new chips filter out most of the spiking. They also offer more programming options and native Windows95 support!

For more info on programming the stick, check out the programming section. Here's an image with all the button and hat names (print it out and keep it handy when editing files!) The stick shown is an FLCS, but FLCS and F-22 Pro keys work the same.

For more information on the technical side, check out the F-22 Pro hardware tweaks section. It gives more info on chip revisions and fixing things if something should brake. Can't get the parts you need? Check out the parts section for suggested alternatives.
